Creating Youth-driven Opportunities to Transform the Economy

Today the world’s population is predominantly young, there are 1.8 billion people between the ages of 10-24—they are the largest generation of youth in history.

Africa in particular will have more than 1 billion young people by 2035. Nigeria's current youth population estimates stands at 151 million (70% of the total population)

This majority status makes young people key to the realization of sustainable and resilient societies.

Youths have the capacity to accelerate transformative action towards sustainable futures. However, if socioeconomic challenges are not addressed in a meaningful way, young people are more likely to inherit existing inequities or face new and emerging equity issues as they get older.

To fully address socially, economically and environmentally induced inequities, youth need to be engaged as key actors - i.e. active drivers, participants and beneficiaries in activation of solutions for sustainable development.
